When we moved into our house several years ago we kept one thought in mind, "We love the yard and we can change the house". Over the years we've made quite a few changes to our house. First we remodeled the kitchen and dining room, taking out a wall and replacing cabinets, counter tops and floors. Now our kitchen is one of our favorite places. Next, hubby tore out the deck and built us a new one. Now our deck is one of our favorite outside places. We replaced the water heater with a tank-less model, replaced that horrible orange shag carpet, removed wall paper and repainted the downstairs bath and replaced our furnace with a heat pump.
Finally, the master bath was up to bat! Since we had a hallway bath right next door, the master bath remodel wasn't on a time schedule...so it took a little over a year to finish. But the end result was amazing.
Here's what it looked like when we moved in many years ago (orange shag, blue wallpaper and all). The doorway to the left of the vanity lead into the shower/toilet room while the doorway on the right was to the closet.
First we took out the pocket door and the wall separating the vanity area from the shower/toilet area. The kids got in on this demolition action as you can see here. We were going to reuse the toilet, so that got set aside, but the shower got torn apart as well. As we took apart the soaked concrete underneath we realized that the shower had been leaking. So it was good that we ripped it all up when we did. We also narrowed the doorway to the bathroom making it the size of a standard interior door. Now we can close a door when we're standing in our glass enclosed shower. Yay!
Drum roll, please!
Here's the finished product. We turned the toilet 90 degrees to allow for the standard sized whirlpool tub to fit next to it. The walls are a beige color with white baseboards.
We went with bamboo floors and a dark wood vanity cabinet. The vanity top and shower surround are Swan Stone. Almost everything came from Home Depot except the floors which came from Costco.
A couple of years ago I had a remodeling company give me a quote to do this bathroom. Without taking down the wall or putting in high end fixtures they quoted me $32,000 for the job. So, even though it took a little over a year from start to finish, this beautiful bathroom didn't come close to that hefty price tag.
We are planning to move some of our bedroom furniture into the space left by the removal of the closet, but I haven't really figured out the correct placement of that yet. The bathroom is now very spacious and I'd like to use that space as efficiently as possible.
I finally got my 2 headed shower with a glass enclosure! Faucets, tub fixtures and towel bar are brushed nickle.
I still need to put up a window treatment and do a bit more caulking and re-arranging, but my master bath is now beautiful! Hmmm...now what should the next project be?
i LOVE that vanity!!! good job, guys!
